Hello from Michele Collins

Hi everyone!

This is such a great idea.

And I do have fun news to share. I just got a job as an editor at Crabtree Press, a children's press in St. Catharines. I tried commuting but it is an hour and a half each way without weather or traffic complications, so I will be staying in St. Catharines (and sleeping much better) during the week and coming home to my partner Sarah on the weekends.

Hopefully Sarah and I can handle being away from each other (during the week) for a little while, at least until we figure out if the job is working out, if we like St. Catharines enough to move her, if Sarah can get work in St. Catharines (she's an adult literacy/English as a Second Language teacher) etc.

I will be working from home one day a week once I get settled in my job and I can alway commute for a day or so during the week if we really super duper miss each other.

I'm housesitting for a friend in Niagara Falls for 3 weeks (3 weeks rent-free and with satellite TV - when I'm only used to getting 1-3 fuzzy non-cable channels!). And then folks I'm renting a room from a nice family in St. Catharines - plus the rent is cheap (cheaper than commuting). Their names are Cayra and Tai - Tai is a part-time horse veternarian and Cayra is a part-time fitness consultant. The rest of the time they are taking care of their two year old boy Taza and getting ready for their baby-to-be who will be born in May! They are super nice ladies - so it looks like I will be having fun while I'm staying here

On other exciting news, Sarah and I will have been together for 5 years as of March 4th! Sarah just celebrated her 32nd birthday and my 31st birthday is next week (Wednesday the 16th).

And my sister Shannon is one course away from finishing her highschool and she's going to go to hairdressing school in March. She's also engaged to be married to her boyfriend Jeff. They haven't set a date yet. And so her family just keeps getting bigger. Shannon has 2 boys - Wesley, who just turned 8 in January and Owen, who just turned 6 in January. Jeff has one son, Jesse, who is 11 and will be turning 12 in March.

Shawn has just moved back to Toronto (he was living in Chatham with Mom and Dad for a little while) and is ultimately looking for office work (he has lots of experience, including accounting experience), but he's up for any kind of work until he can get a good office job. If you know of anything you can reach him at wallflowerpunch@hotmail.com

And Mom and Dad are doing well. They have kindly lent me their car for my new job until Sarah and I can afford to pick up something ourselves. (If anyone knows of any good deals on a car let me know!) Mom just started volunteering at the Chatham Humane Society.

That's all for now!

Ciao,

Michele Collins :)

My first ride

This is a picture of my first ride, truck #2110. This is one of the few days it didn't blow snow, I did half of my training in blizzard conditions driving through the streets of London. Probably the best way to learn though, well except for the nearly 3 hour ride back home to Sarnia at 40 km/h. The most fun was skid school were I got to bring a truck up to speed 70-80 km/h and spin it out of control 180 degrees or more. Not only was it the most fun I've had in awhile it was very educational Posted by Hello

FIRST BLOG

Well let’s see what’s new in my life. I just graduated from the Veri Institute of Professional Truck Driving and have passed my AZ licence so now I just need to finish off my resume package and find a job. I’m looking to run long haul partner at first to gain experience then go long haul single. Uhmm… unfortunately my life is pretty boring so that’s about it for now.
